Football Club charities sharing the benefits of smart meters
In partnership with Smart Energy GB.
Knowing the score isn’t just important on the pitch – it matters at home too. That’s why EFL Football Club charities across England and Wales are teaming up with Smart Energy GB to help fans and local people take control of their energy use through smart meters.
A smart meter can make life easier by showing you exactly how much gas and electricity you’re using, and what it’s costing – in real time. With over half of homes in the UK already switched, it’s a smart move that’s helping millions of people stay on top of their energy use.
Thanks to the trusted voices of 72 Football Club charities, smart meter awareness is reaching deeper into communities -through walking football groups, lunch clubs, veterans programmes, holiday activities, and even festive events like Christmas socials and food hamper deliveries. Whether it’s at a stadium or a community centre, football is helping fans understand how smart meters can help them stay ahead of the game.
Thanks to Smart Energy GB, Bolton Wanderers in the Community invited the Walker family to the Toughsheet Community Stadium to surprise them with tickets to the Sky Bet EFL Play-Off Final at Wembley. Enlisting the help of their very own John McGinlay to pull off this surprise, Wanderers invited the family pitch side where they presented them with their tickets.
Being able to provide Logan, who attends the club charity’s Sutton Centre Families session, and his family with tickets was a great opportunity to thank the family.

Look at what our Football Club charities have been up to throughout the season:
Stockport County Community Trust shared the benefits of smart meters to their social wellbeing group at their community lunch and invited residents at a local care home and participants across other community projects to have lunch together. The aim was to reach people who may feel lonely over the festive period and give them an opportunity to socialise and enjoy the afternoon at the ground.
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust used their Men in Sheds sessions, a place for men to meet and improve self-esteem, learn new skills, overcome isolation and have social interaction with others to promote the benefits of smart meters and the simple changes they can make to save energy at home. This was also a chance for participants to explore alternative display options that are more accessible
