Did you know when you leave school at 16, Football Clubs have a range of education opportunities that offer an exciting alternative to college.
Each year, Football Clubs and their charities offer over 5,000 students an alternative to traditional college or sixth form. You will often study at or close to the stadium and playing football is often a big part of the course. Many courses are often more practical as well as being recognised academic qualifications. However, the route to university and a degree is still one that many students take after completing their course. Many programmes also provide students the chance to join the EFL CEFA (Community & Education Football Alliance) league where you can play football weekly as part of your course and compete against other EFL Clubs under their name with the Club badge and kit in an official EFL league.

There are a range of courses on offer (they differ from Club to Club) including; A Levels, Vocational BTEC/ NCFE diplomas plus coaching, fitness, or media certifications valued by employers. Courses range from level 1 up to the level 3 with clear progressions into degree level – if that is what you want to do. There are many courses on offer depending on the Club you choose – you can study football, fitness or esports. These courses offer clear pathways into coaching, fitness, media, sport science, youth work, teaching, or university.
Get hands-on experience
Many Clubs offer tailored work placements, live projects, and volunteering within the Club and community so you can gain real life experience while you study that giving you a head start when looking for employment.
Receive professional coaching, teaching and support
Learn from UEFA-qualified coaches, industry experts, and fully qualified teachers who are there to help you with your specific needs. You will also benefit from a strong support network with welfare services, and wraparound pastoral care. This will help you to develop personally building teamwork, leadership, communication, and employability skills.

Your course may include residential trips, European tours, speakers from the football industry and of course studying at a Football Club means there will be plenty of matchday opportunities.
What’s Next?
Once you have completed your course there are many opportunities open to you. You can go into higher education with our University of South Wales Degree , which is a popular option. Many students go on to do apprenticeships or become employed by the Club or Club charity. Some student even go on to do scholarships in the USA.
